How to use

Tips

  • JPEG: for photos

At quality 70–80 most photos still look good, and the file is much smaller. Go lower only if the file must be very small, and check faces and sky in the comparison.

  • WebP: smaller files for the web

For the same look, WebP is usually smaller than JPEG. All current browsers show it, but some older programs and online forms do not accept it. If you are unsure, keep JPEG.

  • PNG: for screenshots and graphics

PNG keeps every pixel and transparency. Here it is compressed without any loss, so the saving is smaller. For photos saved as PNG, converting to JPEG or WebP saves far more.

  • Check before you download

Move the divider across the image. Compression shows first in smooth areas such as sky and skin, and around text and sharp edges.

Frequently asked questions

Didn't find your answer? Write to us: picturehearth@gmail.com

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The photo is compressed in your browser, on your own device, and is not sent anywhere. The page only downloads the compressor itself the first time you use it.

Will my photo lose quality?

JPEG and WebP compression removes detail that is hard to see. The lower the quality, the more is removed. Compare before and after and pick the lowest quality that still looks right to you. PNG is compressed without any loss.

Why is my PNG only a little smaller?

PNG is compressed here without any loss: every pixel stays exactly the same, so only a little can be saved. If you do not need transparency or exact pixels, convert the image to WebP or JPEG with the “Convert images” tool.

What happens to the camera details and location?

They are removed. The new file contains only the image, without EXIF data such as the camera model, date or GPS location. Phone photos stay upright.

Is there a size limit?

Files can be up to 50 MB. Images up to 100 megapixels work on a computer, and up to 16.7 on phones and tablets, because mobile browsers have less memory for images.

Can I compress several photos at once?

This page compresses one photo at a time. For many photos, use “Batch processing”: there you can also change the size and format, and you get all results in one ZIP file.
