Tips
Check the location before you share
Phones often save where a photo was taken. If “Location” appears in the list, anyone who gets the file can see that place, for example your home.
Do not rely on the app you share with
Some sites remove metadata when you upload, others keep it, and email and many messengers send the file as it is. Removing it yourself is the safe way.
The photo stays the same
Only the hidden data is removed. The image itself is copied byte for byte, so there is no loss of quality.
What is kept
The orientation and the color profile stay, so the photo does not turn sideways and its colors do not change.
Frequently asked questions
Didn't find your answer? Write to us: picturehearth@gmail.com
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The photo is read and cleaned in your browser, on your own device, and is not sent anywhere.
What is metadata?
Information stored in the file next to the image: for example the camera or phone model, the date and time, the location, the author and the software used.
Does removing metadata lower the quality?
No. The image data is copied as it is, without re-encoding, so the photo looks exactly the same. The file only gets smaller by the size of the removed data.
Can I remove only the location?
Not yet. For now all metadata is removed, except the orientation and the color profile.
Why does my phone photo look less bright after cleaning?
Some phones store extra brightness data for HDR screens at the end of the file. It is removed with the rest, so the photo shows as a standard photo.
Is there a size limit?
Files can be up to 50 MB. There is no limit in pixels, because the image is not decoded.
